Mon River and Gasper Caperton Trails (new addition)

Along east bank of Monongahela River from PA state line to Pricketts Fort, WV

The Mon River Trail will eventually run for 30 miles south from the PA/WV state line along the east bank of the Monongahela River. The 5.9-mile asphalt section in Morgantown and Star City is named for Gov. Gasper Caperton. In addition, 1.9 miles are developed from Morgantown to Uffington. Park in Star City just north of US19 or in Morgantown near the mouth of Deckers Creek, south of the US19 bridge.

The current trail provides enormous variety. It begins in a residential area of Star City, passes parts of West Virginia University with its monorail system, runs along the edge of downtown Morgantown, and escapes from the city to the isolation of a bench along a bluff as it heads for Uffington. At the mouth of Decker’s Creek in Morgantown, it connects with the lower end of the 19-mile Decker’s Creek Trail.

Morgantown requires all bicycle riders to wear helmets. They enforce this rule.
